Min pappa och hans fru Margaretha är på besök i NYC, vi har vandrat runt i West Village och hann också med en tur till Rockefeller center. Det är ett vackert art deco monument som byggdes av John D Rockefeller under 1930 talet.
Byggnaden får tankarna att driva iväg till Ayn Rand och kanske framförallt Urkällan, som skrevs ett par år efter att byggnaden stod färdig. Ett citat från boken;
"I would give the greatest sunset in the world for one sight of New York's skyline. Particularly when one can't see the details. Just the shapes. The shapes and the thought that made them. The sky over New York and the will of man made visible. What other religion do we need?"
På en liten skylt framför den enorma skrapan finns en liten skylt med Rockefellers programförklaring. Läs och njut:

I Believe
"I believe in the supreme worth of the individual and in his right tolife, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. I believe that every right implies a responsibility; everyopportunity, an obligation; every possession, a duty.
I believe that the law was made for man and not man for the law; thatgovernment is the servant of the people and not their master.
I believe in the dignity of labor, whether with head or hand; that theworld owes no man a living but that it owes every man an opportunityto make a living.
I believe that thrift is essential to well ordered living and thateconomy is a prime requisite of a sound financial structure, whetherin government, business or personal affairs.
I believe that truth and justice are fundamental to an enduring socialorder.
I believe in the sacredness of a promise, that a man’s word should beas good as his bond; that character -- not wealth or power or position-- is of supreme worth.
I believe that the rendering of useful service is the common duty ofmankind and that only in the purifying fire of sacrifice is the drossof selfishness consumed and the greatness of the human soul set free.
I believe in an all-wise and all-loving God, named by whatever name,and that the individual’s highest fulfillment, greatest happiness, andwidest usefulness are to be found in living in harmony with His will.

Jättebra, men Rockefeller levde ju knappast upp till det själv.
